Soda Bread

A simple, no yeast, no knead bread for little hands to make.

This is a great recipe if you need some bread fast.

As it has no yeast and doesn’t require kneading it’s quite a close texture, much like a scone, and is delicious straight from the oven or as toast the next day.

The boy and girl love this with butter and Grandpa’s raspberry jam. It’s also great with homemade soup or as cheese on toast.

Ingredients:

6oz self raising wholemeal flour
6oz plain flour
½ teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon bicarbonate of soda

For the buttermilk:
½ pint whole milk
2 tablespoons lemon juice

Mix the milk and lemon juice in a jug and leave to stand for 5 – 10 minutes.

Preheat the oven to 200C and grease a baking tray.

Put the remaining ingredients in a bowl.

Once the milk has curdled, stir it into the flour mixture until mixed together well.

Turn the dough onto the baking tray.

Bake for 25 – 30 minutes.

Leave to cool then serve.
