Dye your own pasta as an art material.
Clear out your food cupboard of end of packet, out of date pasta (or rice) and give it a colourful new purpose.
Use this for collage pictures, decorating play dough modelling, imaginative play…
So simple, using 3 ingredients:
Dried pasta (or rice)
Food colouring (we use Wilton Food Gels – they’re so bright and intense AND last for ages)
1 teaspoon clear vinegar
Plastic tubs with lids
What to do:
Put a handful of two of pasta into a plastic tub.
Add a dollop of food colouring (about the size of a pea).
Add the vinegar.
Put the lid on the tub and shake, shake, shake till the colour is evenly distributed.
Spread the pasta onto a parchment lined baking tray.
Leave somewhere warm to dry out, or place in a low oven for 15 minutes.
Repeat with different pasta shapes and different colours.
