Time to defrost the freezer? Have some fun with the chunks of ice that come out of it.
This was a spur of the moment idea and I was thrilled with the result. The boy and the girl asked about how real geodes were made so we did some research on the internet.
Place bowls of hot water in the freezer and the ice melts enough for chunks like this to fall out naturally.
Pink and blue food colouring.
Dribble the food colouring onto the ice chunks and mix around with a spoon. The pink and blue mixed beautifully to make purple.
Add more colours to get different effects.
Sprinkle salt over the geodes: it melts the ice into an amazing texture and is lovely to watch.
