We created a little Christmas pud for the Sew a Softie Festive Season 2020.
We love taking part in Sew a Softie month in July and we LOVE that the wonderful Trixi (Sew a Softie’s founder all round sewing guru) has gathered up some of her creative friends to bring you Sew a Softie for the Festive Season.
You’ll need scissors, thread, a needle, pins and some toy stuffing.
Print out the template sheet and cut out the shapes. Lay on the felt and cut (pin the template piece in place if you wish).
Separate the two circles. Using white thread, sew the white piece on to the top using little seed (very little straight) stitches.
Place the two circles together.
Sandwich the arm and leg pieces in between the two circle layers and pin in place. Also pin the white piece away from the edge.
Thread your needle with brown thread and start a running stitch above one of the arms and sew around the edge of the circle.
Keep sewing around the edge of the circle making sure to trap the arm and leg pieces in between the circle layers.
Stop sewing and leave a gap of approx. 8cms. Leave your needle threaded, you’ll use it to close the gap once stuffed.
Stuff the pudding with stuffing. I always buy cheap hollowfibre pillows as a cheaper alternative to toy stuffing. Be careful not to stuff the needle in!
Close up the gap and finish off by tying a knot in your thread and snipping the end (not too close to the knot though or it may unravel!).
Pin the holly leaves to the top of the pudding. Thread the needle with red thread. Sew the three red berries on top of the holly leaves to secure them in place.
Almost finished…
Using black thread sew two french knots for eyes and a little row of chain stitch for the smile.
