Have a go at making these no sew felt hearts for Valentines.
My kids are always disappointed to take down the Christmas tree so we keep a small artificial tree up all year and decorate it with whatever festival is going on. First up: Valentine tree.
These woven felt hearts are a traditional Danish Christmas decoration but they look so lovely we’ve adopted them for Valentine’s Day.
They look complicated to make but really are pretty simple.
I found a template online along with a good tutorial on radmegan . There are lots of templates and youtube tutorials you can search online for too.
What you’ll need:
Felt
Paper
Pen or pencil
Scissors
To make hanging decorations:
Glue gun
Ribbon
Danish heart baskets are traditionally made at Christmas time, or Jul (pronounced ‘Yule’).
Make a template out of paper and cut out pieces of felt using the template. You’ll need: scissors, pen or pencil, paper and felt.
You’ll need two template pieces (different colours work best) for each heart. Fold each felt piece in half and cut three slits using the cutting lines as a guide.
Weaving the heart looks a lot trickier than it is. Once you get the hang of it it’s easy peasy.
Try lots of different colour combinations. I tried one with wavy lines cut in the felt and also wove extra felt pieces through the slits for a different effect.
These little baskets would make a lovely Valentine present. Put some sweets or chocolate coins inside.
I also used a hot glue gun to stick some ribbon handles into the hearts to make hanging decorations.
